About us

For Nigerian travellers, choosing a destination is only part of the planning process. Knowing where you can travel without first applying for a visa can make an international trip considerably easier.
The Nigerian passport provides visa-free access to a number of destinations, although travellers should remember that visa-free does not mean entry is automatic. Immigration authorities may still require a valid passport, proof of accommodation, a return or onward ticket, sufficient funds and other supporting documents.

For a relatively straightforward international trip, Ghana, Senegal and Seychelles are three destinations worth considering.

Ghana:
Ghana is one of the most convenient visa-free destinations for Nigerians, particularly for travellers looking for an international experience without the complications of a long-haul trip. As members of ECOWAS, Nigerians benefit from the region’s free-movement arrangements. Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists Nigeria among the ECOWAS countries whose citizens can enter Ghana without a visa for up to 90 days.

Accra offers a lively combination of beaches, restaurants, nightlife, art and culture. Travellers can also venture beyond the capital to explore historic sites such as Cape Coast and Elmina, as well as Ghana’s forests, waterfalls and coastal communities. For Nigerians, Ghana also has the advantage of relatively easy air connections from major cities in Nigeria.

Entry note: Visa-free entry does not remove Ghana’s immigration requirements. Travellers should carry the necessary travel documents and be prepared to explain the purpose and duration of their visit if asked.

Senegal:
Senegal gives Nigerian travellers the opportunity to experience a distinctly Francophone side of West Africa, with its own cuisine, music, architecture and coastal culture.
According to Senegal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigerian nationals can enter the country without a visa for stays of less than three months. The passport or travel document should have at least six months of validity.

Dakar is a natural starting point, combining Atlantic beaches, restaurants, markets and cultural attractions. A trip to Gorée Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with significant history connected to the transatlantic slave trade, is also a highlight for many visitors.
Senegal is particularly appealing to travellers who want their holiday to revolve around culture and history rather than simply beaches and resorts.

Seychelles:
For travellers looking beyond West Africa, Seychelles offers a very different experience.
Seychelles does not require visitors to obtain a visa before travelling. Instead, visitors may receive a permit on arrival provided they meet the country’s entry conditions.

There is one important distinction: all travellers must obtain a Travel Authorisation before travelling to Seychelles. This is a pre-travel requirement, but it is not a visa.

Travellers should also have:
– A valid passport
– A confirmed return or onward ticket
– Confirmed accommodation
– Proof of sufficient funds
Seychelles’ immigration authority states that visitors should have access to at least US$150 per day, or its equivalent, for their stay.

Once the entry requirements are handled, travellers can enjoy the destination’s beaches, clear waters and dramatic island landscapes, making Seychelles particularly attractive for honeymoons, anniversaries and relaxed luxury holidays.

Conclusion
Visa-free travel can make international holidays significantly easier for Nigerian passport holders, but the key is to look beyond the phrase “visa-free” and understand the actual entry requirements attached to each destination.

Ghana offers convenience and proximity, Senegal combines culture with history, while Seychelles provides a more tropical island escape. Each offers a different travel experience without requiring a traditional visa application before departure.

Before booking a flight, however, always confirm the latest requirements with the destination’s immigration authority or embassy. Entry policies can change, and having a visa-free destination in mind is only the first step; travelling with the right documents is what gets you through the border.
